Redd School Fall Festival was a smashing hit! The Topsy Turvy Cake Walk had the great support of parents and students and we had a blast making cakes, awarding cakes to the cake walk winners and eating cakes. Thank you one and all for your kind and generous support, it is greatly appreciated
This week 8th and 7th graders will learn about wholesale pricing, discounts, sales tax, tipping and simple interest calculations using their knowledge of percents and decimals. These are real life skills that students can apply immediately to their everyday life. We will also wrap up the recipe conversion project. Student have been converting a basic recipe to feed 100, calculate the costs for ingredients, convert cups to ounces and then to pounds to calculate the amounts needs and the associated costs. They have also learned about gross and net profits and have built in a profit margin into their project. Yes, this has been difficult, but I am glad to say they most definitely learned something new!
6th grade will continue work on multiplication and division of fractions and decimals. They will use manipulatives to increase their understanding of fractions using the inverse of division...multiplication. Paper pizzas and strips will be used to showcase fractions, whole and parts. I also have additional fun activities planned for this unit that we will enjoy next week!
Thank you,
